The Town is updating its Comprehensive Plan to guide development and strategic growth of our community. An Advisory Committee of residents and stakeholders has started to meet. Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements

The Town of Thompson is upgrading 2 of its 5 municipally-owned and -operated Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs). The updates are essential for the functioning of the sewer and water system. Grow the Gateways (GTG)

Grow the Gateways is a strategic plan developed with the assistance of the County Planning Department for the Village of Monticello and the Town of Thompson to improve targeted corridors through economic development initiatives, zoning, improved design standards and collaboration. Design Guidelines

As recommended in the Grow the Gateway Project, The Town along with the Village of Monticello have adopted design guidelines for our commerce centers to enhance the Town’s visual appearance. This helpful guide outlines how businesses and other commercial properties can comply with the guidelines and ensure Thompson looks its best!

 New Sign Code and Guide

With assistance from the Sullivan County Business-Friendly Zoning Program, the Town has adopted a new Sign Code (Local Law 2 of 2019) and design guide. This new code establishes standards for signs to help preserve and improve the Town’s appearance, and to promote public safety by regulating signs. View the Code and Guide.

Landscape Guidelines

The Town of Thompson has developed landscaping standards and design guidelines as a tool to reduce the environmental impacts of new development while creating areas that are visually appealing and inviting to the public. These guidelines are available in this helpful document.

New Welcome Signs and Banners

With assistance provided from a Sullivan County Signs Grant, the Town has designed and installed welcome signs along major roadways into the Town. As part of the Town’s Sullivan Renaissance Municipal grant program, many banners were also installed along the Route 42 commercial corridor.

Gateway Gardens

Many of Thompson’s welcome signs are surrounded by beautifully designed landscapes. These gardens (and the welcome signs) are strategically located at key entry points into the Town as outlined in the Grow the Gateways Plan to provide visitors and residents with a positive visual experience as they enter the Town. The Dove Trail: A Celebration of Woodstock’s 50^th

The Town of Thompson worked with the Sullivan County Visitor’s Association to promote the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, which took place in Sullivan County. Stop by and take a photo with one of our doves, located on Rock Hill Drive in Rock Hill on State Route 17B “Woodstock Way” at Collins Field. Learn more about the Dove Trail.

LED Lighting Project

The Town of Thompson, along with several other municipalities in the County, including the County, are participating in an LED Streetlight Conversion Program with the New York Power Authority. The upgrade of over 800 streetlights to LED is estimated to save the Town over $92,000 in energy cost annually among other benefits.

Thompson Named a Clean Energy Community by NYSERDA

The Town of Thompson recently completed four high-impact clean energy actions under NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities program. Therefore, NYSERDA has officially designated Thompson as a Clean Energy Community. Because of this honor, Thompson is also eligible to apply for additional grant funding.

Adopt-a-Road Program

Thompson offers individuals, organizations, and groups the opportunity to adopt a road. Adoptees commit to picking up litter along a stretch of road that’s two miles or less – and receive a custom sign at no charge. The Town is always looking for new road adoptees! Interested?
