Tax Season Hours
Monday-Friday 9am-3pm

The Tax Receiver collects the General Property Taxes in January. The bills are mailed in early January. The failure to mail a statement or the failure of a property owner to receive a statement will not affect the validity of the taxes or interest prescribed by law (NYS Real Property Tax Law 922). If you have not received a bill during the first week of January, please contact this office for a duplicate bill. The tax bill covers the period of January 1st – December 31st. Payments can be made upon receipt of bill through January 31st, without penalty. If they are paid on/or after February 1st, there is a penalty, see below:

  • February 1%
  • March 2% plus $2 second notice fee

After March 31st, all unpaid parcels are turned over to Sullivan County for collection. You may contact the County Treasurer’s Office at 845-807-0200 to inquire about the tax amount due. You can mail your payments after April to:

Sullivan County Treasurer
100 North Street
Monticello, New York 12701

The Tax Receiver is also responsible for the collection of the Town of Thompson’s water and sewer districts’ bills that are distributed separately. Collection is ongoing from February until September 30 annually.
