Fall Shred Day

Protect you and your family from identity theft and fraud. Securely dispose of documents with sensitive information for free.

When: October 14th, 2023, from 9am-Noon

Where: Town of Thompson Town Hall parking lot (Near Home Depot)

What: Shred Day is an opportunity for Town of Thompson individuals to securely dispose of documents containing sensitive and personal information, free of charge. Please note that Shred Day is for individuals only, not commercial businesses – and you must be a Town of Thompson resident.

How: Bring up to 2 legal size boxes full of documents to be shredded. Please respect the 2-box limit per individual as it will be strictly enforced.

Why: Properly shredding documents is essential in protecting personal information. Unfortunately, identity thieves may sift through trash or recycling bins seeking out documents that have not been shredded. According to the latest U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report, there were 24,248 cases of identity theft in New York State in one year – and that number is on the rise. New York State ranks #13 in states with the most incidents of identity theft.

*The Town typically holds two shred days each year, in the fall and spring.
