You have just received your 2020 property tax bill for your home or property. Here at the Town of Thompson, we want to ensure you know where those taxes are going!
• The Town of Thompson is responsible for collecting just over $34,000,000 this year.
• $15,000,000 is collected for your Sullivan County taxes.
• $4.2 million is for Town of Thompson Highway Department which includes snow and ice control plus road repairs and maintenance.
• $525,000 is for general operations. This includes Town Hall and Parks & Recreation staffing, highway garage and salt shed, projects, programs, and code enforcement.
• The Town of Thompson Highway and General Operations funds tax rates are down by over 5%.
• $10.3 million is for special districts operated by the Town Board, such as street lights, water, sewer, roads, and drainage. Note: Special district taxes are paid only by the residents of those districts.
• $3.6 million is for Fire and Library Districts which have their own governing boards that set their own budgets.
• $462,000 in miscellaneous is primarily unpaid water and sewer charges which are re-levied.
