For the seventh consecutive year, your Town of Thompson taxes have decreased. Total appropriations including all districts this year are almost $23M. Districts under Town control are $18.9M. Here are a few highlights that we’re excited about as we enter 2022:

  • Sewer consolidation has been completed reducing the number of districts from 12 to 6. This has resulted in 6.7% reduction in overall expenses.
  • Sewer rate re-structuring has also been completed in tandem with the consolidation. All properties will now be billed based on the type and we have removed assessed value as a component of the rate. This translates to a fairer distribution of cost and in most cases a reduced residential cost. Learn more about the benefits of rate restructuring, here.
  • Our LED Street light replacement project is under way with smart technology for sensors and community wi-fi. Discover what positive changes are on the horizon thanks to LED technology in Thompson.
  • Two new plow trucks are currently being built in-house at our Highway Department. Highway Superintendent Rich Benjamin says that our entire fleet of plow trucks will have been upgraded.
  • Our planning and building departments have been busy! There are many new projects in the pipeline which will boost commercial and residential development and help our tax base.
  • We have seen a significant increase in residential construction, particularly in-fill development with builders putting up new homes in developments such as Emerald Green where there are approved, ready-to-build lots available. Our robust real estate market is driving these investments. It’s nice to see new residents and friends we haven’t met yet join our community.
  • The Kartrite Waterpark, The Alder, and Resorts World Catskills are doing well. Reports are that the Monster Golf Course and more are in the wings for 2022 construction.
  • We have invested in our parks for which we have received many complements and positive comments on social media. We are in a joint venture with the Village of Monticello and Sullivan Renaissance to upgrade Dillon Park and are scheduled to open our new Lake Ida Park in Rock Hill this year.
  • We’ve been working with Sullivan Renaissance funding to create a great first impression at our gateways with new signage and welcoming gardens at Route 42, Exit 105 and Exit 106.

“The Town Board and our skilled staff work hard to think outside of the box, always looking to the future. We are evolving our Town to be an even cleaner, more attractive, and more comfortable place to live, work, and play. We have a stable, consistent budget, great roads, solid infrastructure and a policy of investment where it counts. Our mantra is to seize every opportunity to maximize results, lower taxes, and make our community a better place. Let’s leave our Town significantly better for the next generation. Always Thompson Forward!”
