NYSEG reports an increase in scams threatening to turn off people’s service unless they are paid over the phone using gift cards or “Green Dot” cards. Given the COVID-19 situation, NYSEG and RG&E has suspended all disconnections until further notice. NYSEG and RG&E are however, still sending out shut off notices as customers still need documentation in order to receive further HEAP assistance if that is an option.
