The Tax Receiver collects the General Property Taxes in January. The bills are mailed in early January. The failure to mail a statement or the failure of a property owner to receive a statement will not affect the validity of the taxes or interest prescribed by law (NYS Real Property Tax Law 922). If you have not received a bill during the first week of January, please contact this office for a duplicate bill. The tax bill covers the period of January 1st – December 31st. Payments can be made upon receipt of bill through January 31st, without penalty. If they are paid on/or after February 1st, there is a penalty, see below:

  • February 1%
  • March 2% plus $2 second notice fee

After March 31st, all unpaid parcels are turned over to Sullivan County for collection. You may contact the County Treasurer’s Office at 845-807-0200 to inquire about the tax amount due. You can mail your payments after April to:

Payments may be made online by credit card or ACH by clicking here. There is a 2.65% plus $0.40 transaction charge for each credit card transaction and $2.50 fee for each ACH transaction that is charged directly to the tax payer.

Payments may be made in person by check or cash and are accepted during the hours listed above.  Payments can also be made by mail to: Town of Thompson Tax Receiver, 4445 State Route 42, Monticello, New York 12701.  Please reference your SBL# (Section, Block and Lot) on your check.

Payments may be made by ACH or Wire.  Please email the Tax Collector at [email protected] or call  845-794-2500, extension 320 for the banking information. If you elect to pay by wire, you must pay any fees associated with this method of payment.

The property tax bill contains levies for the Town, County, Fire District and any special districts.  In addition, if school or sewer bills are unpaid, they will be re-levied on the Property Tax Bill.

The Town of Thompson Tax Office does not collect School Taxes for the School District.  School tax bills are mailed in early September.  The due date is specified on the bill.  Please contact your school tax office with any questions you may have; Monticello Central School District at 845-794-1515 or online at Monticello, Liberty Central School District at 845-439-3557 or online at Liberty and Fallsburg Central School District at 845-434-6800 or online at Fallsburg.   As of November 15th all unpaid School Tax bills are turned over to Sullivan County, and are re-levied on the following years Property Tax Bill with an additional penalty.
